I was about to say that I hoped we could make protests against Israel’s government without being called antisemitic here in France too…

They found Tesla but did they found TwitterCars though? And SpaceTwitter huh? DiggerTwitter? See? Not everyone can do 4D Chess like TwitterBoy.

When you use “connect with Apple” it creates an account with a name constructed this way.

You can change it afterwards but no one does.

EDIT: Wait, is it the default Reddit way?

How do you get rid of bad neighbors?

So our neighbors have been a growing problem for a few months now. They seem to be a flop house for six or seven people, most of them look high all day. They go out and Rev a Harley at 3am, they burn plastic been our houses in a fire pit, they have a new dog every two weeks because they keep getting out and getting hit by...

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

Where do you live? Need a place with a friendly neighborhood to cook my moonshine and get drunk all day with my cousin wife. She’s a huge fan of Barbra Streisand and a bit deaf so I hope you won’t mind. Most of our dogs are friendly with the kids unless they don’t ride a bike.

I need to warn you though, sometimes my wife and get arguments about politics, especially when we start drinking in the morning, but it only happens once or twice in a week. No biggie.

Did I say she’s a bit deaf?

Anyway. See you soon neighbor!

What’s less sustainable is centralized web. You must know that since you work for Amazon, right?

When PopcornTime was still a thing you could watch adfree any movie you’d like even in 4K because resources were shared through peer to peer.

Now, YouTube gets up to 12$ RPM, content creators get maybe 40% of that. With 2 prerolls and 2 midrolls + banners they get plenty enough money to make things work. Google has the most aggressive VASTs of the market. They are everywhere, called multiple times per pages.

Spare us your tears.

Besides, no significant competition? Is that a joke?

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

Unfortunately, YouTube exists because content creators make money out of the ads.

But free content video is possible with a peer to peer protocol. The content creator get the responsibility to keep the seed alive. The more popular, the more it gets shared, the more it’s available.

But content creators don’t work for free, and public libraries don’t have the resources to store all the dumb content people deem necessary to make.

Reminder: give money to Wikipedia. This thing is a miracle.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

If you ask a 40+ year old maybe…

Content creators are flying away to TikTok or Snapchat. Gamers are on Twitch and Discord etc.

My nephew is 11 yo and has never watched content on YT.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

IMHO people just won’t give a flying fuck about it. Most people won’t even be aware of it.

They’ll upgrade when they’ll buy a new PC, just as usual.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

IMHO, there’s a card missing saying

“Waiting a few years that every bug get fixed”

Another one should be

“Waiting a few years so that my $100 bucks GPU can run it flawlessly”

And last but not least.

“Waiting a few years so that my $2000 MacBook can play it at 30FPS”

Been playing Cyberpunk 2077 lately, that game is dope. I use Game Porting ToolKit BTW

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

Gotta keep that PC to play some Windows games right?

I did something dumb that I don’t regret yet, put my PC budget into a more powerful Mac when GPTK came out. I surely can’t play all games but so far I’m really satisfied.

Running Mixtral-7x8B_Q4 on a laptop wasn’t something I was expecting to be able to do :)

So I can’t say I got the best gaming rig for sure, but professionally speaking this has been an absolute blast.

If I remember correctly M1 was about as powerful as a 1050 when it came out (at least on native games). Are you happy with your M2 Air? I managed to play CP77 on my wife’s one, but since it only has 8Gb of RAM it crashed just after the meeting with Jackie Welles.

TBH, I miss a good macgaming sub on Lemmy. At a least I have an occasion to laugh of myself from time to time

Our Very Stable 4D Chess TwitterBoy Genius has become so fantastically effective in killing his brands.

First Twitter.com, then TwitterCars and the TwitterTrucks.

Will he kill SpaceTwitter too?

And what about TwitterDigger? Is this still a thing?

Recommendations please: Self-hosted web site analytics

Hello y'all! I have my personal (static) website / blog running on netlify out on the public internet. Netlify, in case you're not familiar, is not a traditional web host, so I can't add databases or anything else like that on the server itself. Right now, that site has zero analytics / visitor tracking and I've decided I want...

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

Hello,

If you only want to track the number of page views you can do something simpler.

On your website, add an empty image with a known name in the footer that point to your home server (no proxy needed if your website allows loading images from external site)

You should see the attempt to download the empty image in your home server logs. There are tools to parse your server logs for specific keys (I have Logstash in mind)

If you want to track anything else, just add another empty image linked to the website event you want to track.

Jaws

I was around 6 or 7 when I saw it on television, before R rating was even a thing and almost 40 years later I am still terrified of sharks.

@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been believing this for a very long time but I’ve seen a video made by a French Canadian that proved me wrong

As a matter of fact, when first immigrants arrived in Nova Scotia, most of the French people weren’t even speaking French, but regional dialects.

What happened is that immigrants had to spend long periods of time in big ports of France before taking the boat to the new World and this is how they learned to speak French.

But English was the language mainly used for trades, and local French speakers included a lot of English words in their daily dictionary (which were then exported to France)

Then England took control of Canada and tried to eradicate the French spoken there because they thought it was impure and perverted.

French speakers were pissed, and began to protect the language with tough anti-English rules

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

Before the moment England took control of the Canada there wasn’t any protective law because there wasn’t a need to.

Protection measures appeared after that

French dude here

I can’t even remember any French recipes for frog legs. The only frog legs I ever ate were in a Chinese restaurant, with bitter sweet sauce.

TBH I don’t even know a single restaurant that have frog legs on the menu, and I can’t even think of a grocery store that sells frog legs.

I eat two dozen of snails a month though. Are they endangered too?

TL,DR I call this article absolute bullshit.

I've seen her in France (Aéronef de Lille) a few months ago.

The performance was great but I was disappointed that the concert only lasted an hour and 15 minutes.

Great band anyway.

Everybody’s talking about Mistral, an upstart French challenger to OpenAI ( arstechnica.com )

On Monday, Mistral AI announced a new AI language model called Mixtral 8x7B, a "mixture of experts" (MoE) model with open weights that reportedly truly matches OpenAI's GPT-3.5 in performance—an achievement that has been claimed by others in the past but is being taken seriously by AI heavyweights such as OpenAI's Andrej...

I run it fine on a base model MacBook Air with 8Gb of RAM and absolutely crazy on a 30 GPU cores M2 Max. Didn’t try on my company’s M1 Pro but I will tomorrow.

I use the LMStudio app and download Mistral from there. The heavier model for my beefy Mac and a 3Gb one for the Air. GPU acceleration with Metal enabled.

I tried a lot of models for development purposes and this one blew my mind.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

You download the model and it’s on your computer for as long as you want. The whole point is to be able to use it locally.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

So it is entirely local? Absolutely

How large is it? 12 models of quantization, from 3.08GB to 7.70GB

I use mistral-7b-instruct-v0.1.Q3_K_L.gguf 3.82GB on the MBA

Note that it might crash sometimes during computation. Just push the button “reload” then “continue” and the model finish its sentence as if nothing happened. I don’t know if its related to MLStudio (the app using the model) or the model itself though.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

You should definitely try Mistral. It runs on a potato

joneskind , (edited )
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

Oh boy, I missed Mixtral GPTQ and only tried Mistral 7b

Currently downloading mixtral-8x7b-v0.1.Q4_K_M.gguf

Thank you!

EDIT: mixtral-8x7b-v0.1.Q4_K_M.gguf was to heavy for my Mac but mixtral-8x7b-v0.1.Q3_K_M.gguf runs fine AF

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

It is indeed. I’m switching to the instruct model to see if I can get better results for code and documentation.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

No kidding, technical account manager senior executive of my company uses google sheets to store the code his team produces, instead of using the automated versioned back office I personally created 4 fucking years ago specifically for that purpose. He has absolutely no clue what code is currently in production and keeps asking my team for exports of its how database.

He also asked for a wordpress instance with an associate git repository (of the wordpress code) because why the fuck not. He wasn’t pleased to hear that it makes absolutely no sense.

Last time I heard about him, he was threatening to leave the company.

Holy sweat banana, I know I don’t prey much, but please make it happen.

I bought an app by Wikimedia CH that allows to download the whole thing. It’s called Kiwix.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

According to my app, the whole English Wikipedia with pictures weighs 102.62GB, down to 60,06GB without.

There’s also a mini version that weighs 58,29GB but I don’t know what it contains

Wikipedia 1m Top Articles weighs 43,53GB

kiwix

I’ll try to improve it but I can’t promise it will be any better

Innocent people are innocent people. You cannot cherry pick who deserves human rights and who doesn’t.

The fact that the murderer state of Israel killed and continues to kill innocent people is not an excuse for the barbarism we’ve witnessed.

I will always stand with Palestine, but certainly not for the terrorist Hamas.

joneskind ,
@joneskind@lemmy.world avatar

the implication was that supporting Palestine was not understandable.

I absolutely never said that. The “thus” is entirely yours. I never talked about pro-hamas rallies.

I said that the Macron’s government fears that pro-Palestine rallies degenerate into violent riots.

I also never said I agree with the interdiction, as I’m ready to fight far-right-wingers. Always have been.
